Lake Nkuruba Nature Reserve and Community Campsite is located about 19km south of Fort Portal town. This tranquil budget lodge in Kibale National Park is home to a scenic crater lake and the ancient forest.

It was established in 1991 to protect the ancient forest habitat which surrounds the gorgeous volcanic crater lake (Lake Nkuruba). Therefore, it’s an Eco-friendly project which returns to the community a percentage of its profits.

This adorable campsite is located amidst a tranquil environment that offers guests a chance to unwind, relax and enjoy nature.

Accommodation At Lake Nkuruba Nature Reserve & Community Campsite

The resort’s accommodation is offered in a range of cottages including:

• Rwenzori View Cottages

These cottages are set to offer dramatic views of the Rwenzori Mountains and feature double and twin beds. Normally, they are surrounded by Black-and- Colobus Monkeys.

Each cottage is “self-contained” and has private bathroom facilities with hot showers and flushing toilets. They also have electricity points for charging phones, cameras, and laptops.

Some of them can fit an additional single bed for groups of 3 people. However, an additional cost is incurred per night.

• Lakeside Cottage

This cottage offers impressive views of the serene Lake Nkuruba. This adorable cottage provides privacy from the main camp.

It features a large double bed and private bathroom facilities (hot shower and flushing toilet), plus electricity points. ​

Also, it allows an extra single bed, however, at an extra cost per night.

A small area for camping is available here, ideal for big family groups or friends wishing to stay at the cottage.

• Hilltop Cottages

These self-contained cottages are secluded from the main camp’s ground. They’re surrounded by a lovely lush forest.

Hilltop cottages feature twin or double bed accommodation and also have private bathrooms with hot showers and flushing toilets. More so, they feature electric charging points for laptops, cameras, and phones.

One of these cottages can accommodate an extra bed for a group of 3 people though at an additional cost.

• Camping

This resort features a secure and beautiful camping ground surrounded by trees frequently visited by Red Colobus, playful Vervet Monkeys, and Black-and-white Colobus.

Camping facilities feature shared bathroom facilities with flushing toilets and hot showers. The camping chairs are available and a campfire may be lit at night. Feel free to ask the staff for some assistance need!

You’re cautioned from feeding the monkeys! This can encourage them to steal food from tents in the future.
