5 Days Uganda Wildlife Safari – Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transferring To Murchison Falls National Park, Visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary En-Route To Undertake Rhino Tracking On Foot

On the first day of your 5 days wildlife safari in Uganda and Chimpanzee tour, you’ll rise early and have a lovely breakfast around 6:30 am from your lodge in Kampala.

Then, meet your knowledgeable driver guide and start the 310-kilometer journey (5-6 hours drive) to Uganda’s largest park, Murchison. You will get fascinated by passing through beautiful, busy roads, lush scenery, local markets, as well as tranquil rural towns on this lovely trip.

Along this impressive drive, you’ll make an en-route stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to undertake Rhino tracking on foot adventure.

Please note;

that Ziwa sanctuary is the only place in Uganda to spot the magnificent Rhinos in the wild! Currently, this sanctuary holds over 32 White Rhinos only.

Day 2: A Morning Game Drive And An Afternoon Nile Boat Cruise To The Base Of The Mighty Murchison Falls

Wake up early for a morning breakfast at your lodge around 6:30 am. Then, meet your guide to transfer for a scenic game drive on the northern side of Murchison park.

While on a game drive in this area, you have over 80% chance of spotting most of the wildlife in Uganda Murchison Falls NP!

During this 3-4 hours stimulating drive, you’ll enjoy an early morning beautiful sunrise along the picturesque palm-dotted plains! However, on the drive, expect to spot:

  • Large herds of Elephants
  • Rothschild’s Giraffes
  • Hippos
  • Buffalos
  • Lions
  • Leopards
  • Hyenas
  • Warthogs

You’ll retire and transfer to your lodge for relaxation as well as lunch.

Later, you’ll transfer for an afternoon tranquil boat cruise on the Nile at 2 pm to the bottom of the great Murchison Falls- the most powerful waterfalls in the world!

This 2 hours Nile launch trip to the base of the falls is intended at exploring these massive falls as well as spotting the resident water gem and other animals that come to drink water along the Nile banks in a tranquil way.

Note;

On this serene cruise along the Nile, expect to encounter Hippo pods and countless giant Nile Crocodiles just at the banks. Elephants, Buffalos, Antelopes, and Warthogs usually visit the banks for a drink.

This charming area is characterized by an amazing thunderous sound and the trembling of rocks nearby. The place boasts a stunning plume of spray and a permanent rainbow due to the great pressure of the Nile here. This site is ideal for wonderful photo shoots!

After, you’ll embark on a 340km journey (6-7 hours drive) to Kibale National Park– Africa’s best area for a chimpanzee trekking experience.

This thrilling drive offers you great views of the mighty Albertine Rift Valley, Butiaba Escarpment, Lake Albert as well as the beautiful Blue Mountains of the Congo.

Upon reaching Fort Portal town, you’ll settle for lunch in one of the ideal restaurants and later proceed to Kibale park.

Please note that Kibale holds the highest concentration and diversity of primates in the world. This primate haven of Africa is home to over 13 primate species counting over 1,500 chimp population.

Day 4: Undertake Morning Chimpanzee Trekking In Kibale And Have An Afternoon Memorable Village Walk In Bigodi Community

Rise early and have an early breakfast at your lodge around 6: 30 am. With your packed lunch, you’ll meet your driver guide and transfer to Kibale park headquarters to catch up with a chimpanzee briefing at 8 am.

An experienced park ranger will give you a briefing and go over the dos and don’ts of chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park.

On finishing briefing, embark on a 2-5 hours trek into the jungle in search of fascinating, intelligent, and human close relatives. The trekking time depends on the movement of the habituated chimp community.

According to research, chimps share over 98-99% of their DNA similar to that of man, and thus, they’re considered close genetic relatives of man.

While trekking in the jungle, you’ll encounter several beautiful primates and some of the 370 bird species in the Kibale Forest. And among these include the Blue-breasted Kingfishers, Great-blue Turaco, African-grey Parrot, and White-naped Pigeon.

Note:

On spotting these close cousins of man, you’ll enjoy one magical hour watching them and learning about their fascinating behaviors. You’re allowed to take photos using a flashless camera.

After this memorable encounter, you’ll move back to park headquarters to get awarded a Chimpanzee tracking certificate and enjoy your picnic lunch here as well.

Later in the afternoon, go on a fascinating village walk in the surrounding Bigodi community. While on this exciting walk, you’ll have a close encounter with locals and this will allow you to learn and discover their charming unique ways of living.

On this remarkable village walk, you can decide to visit:

Day 5: Visit Amabere Ga’ Nnyinamwiru Caves, Enjoy A Hike To Fort Portal Crater Lake Field & Mpanga Tea Estate Cycling Tour, And After Transfer To Kampala

After enjoying a leisurely breakfast around 8 am at your lodge, you’ll visit the Amabere Ga Nyina Mwiru Cave area and later Fort Portal Crater Lake Field.

Upon arrival, you’ll be cordially welcomed by a knowledgeable local guide who knows about the rich cultural history of this important cultural site of Ugandan.

You’ll visit the fascinating Amabere Ga Nnyinamwiru Cave– scenic breast-like structures that drip a white liquid thought by locals to be Nyinamwiru’s breasts.

According to mythology, Nyinamwiru was a beautiful daughter of the powerful King Bukuku of the Batembuzi Dynasty in the 14th century.

A legend has it that, this beautiful girl refused to marry a guy that her father had chosen for her. In the end, her father “the king” ordered her breasts to be cut and dumped in this cave. This brutal action was done to deform her beauty!

Amazingly, residents firmly believe that the white substance that drips from these breast-like features is the breasts of Nyinamwiru.

Keep in mind that Batembuzi is thought to have been demi-gods and possess extraordinary abilities!

After this fascinating cultural tour, you’ll embark on a stunning hike to Fort Portal Crater Lake Field. On climbing up to the summit of this picturesque hill, you’ll enjoy a wonderful view of the magnificent crater lakes, including Lake Kigere, Wabikele, and Saaka.

Additionally, you’ll enjoy impressive distant views of the Rwenzori Mountains’ snow-capped peaks, especially on clear days.

From here, you’ll drive to Fort Portal town and settle for lunch, and later connect to Mpanga Tea Estate. While here, you’ll enjoy exploring this gorgeous lush tea plantation on a mountain bike.

After, retreat from this amazing adventure and embark on a drive to Kampala. You’ll arrive in the evening and this makes the end of your Uganda trip.
